Please watch with sound up! It takes a little while to get going, shows how far the noise carries. The film also hopes to prove these machines are used all the year round, with the public around, and for no apparent reason. The noise is off the scale, though no film can capture the fumes released by the machines. These too are off the scale, and soak the air for a wide radius. Neat petrol fumes, thick with carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and all manner of other chemicals. Now imagine this film was 55 minutes long! That's the length of time this same machine was used, without a single stop, by another member of staff in July 2007blowing nothing but dust up and down a 50 metre stretch of empty path in this park. There was no hope of asking him to stop: an attempt to do so on a previous occasion had triggered immediate aggression from that other member of staff. These machines are pollution monsters. The noise is over 100 decibels, and of a particularly aggravating pitch - like 60 vuvuzelas, 50 hair-dryers and 40 food blenders going at once! The airjets fired range from 150-200mph (cheerio insects, microrganisms, biodiversity), all this plus the fumes, the dust... but the one that overrides the lot is, the machines are actually useless. In wet or damp conditions they blow and blow but cannot shift anything water-saturated; in dry conditions all they do is disperse dust, leaves (if there are any leaves; the machines are used all the year round regardless) and anything else ...
